| Greetings ... The Michelin Tire Company has taken over title sponsorship of the PGA Tour's Las Vegas tour stop. The tournament will now be known as -- The Michelin Championship at Las Vegas. Purse will stay at $4,000,000 with a $720,000 1st prize. Full Story from PGATOUR.COM Well, it's nice to have a sponsor. But WHY must a regular event be called a 'championship' ? It used to be that the word 'championship' was reserved for major events - PGA Championship, Players Championship - that sort of thing. Michelin-Las Vegas Invitational, Michelin-Las Vegas Classic, Michelin-Las Vegas Celebrity Pro-Am - any of these will do nicely. But, please! Don't call it a 'championship' !! |
