Default Yet Another "Championship" in Our Midst

Greetings ...

The Michelin Tire Company has taken over title sponsorship of the PGA Tour's Las Vegas tour stop. The tournament will now be known as --

The Michelin Championship at Las Vegas.

Purse will stay at $4,000,000 with a $720,000 1st prize.

Full Story from PGATOUR.COM

Well, it's nice to have a sponsor. But WHY must a regular event be called a 'championship' ? It used to be that the word 'championship' was reserved for major events - PGA Championship, Players Championship - that sort of thing.

Michelin-Las Vegas Invitational, Michelin-Las Vegas Classic, Michelin-Las Vegas Celebrity Pro-Am - any of these will do nicely.

But, please! Don't call it a 'championship' !!
