Default Discuss Freddie's Stroke

There hasn't been a someone who was a MUCH of a "Pure Swinger" than Fred Couples since, maybe, Bobby Jones.

And I have NEVER seen a guy whos hips start more CROSS LINE.
And we have this classic sequence of him:

BUT:

While I can hardly go against the 'MAN, while watching the '06 Masters I was convinced he was hitting. Seemed like the downstroke was a strong pivot followed by right arm thrust. Very simple.

It motivated me to 'copy' those parts of his stroke Sun night and Mon morning and am hitting it great. Maybe I'm just doing something else or took something else from his stroke, but I'd appreciate comments.

Hitting and Fred in the same sentence? I think not. I'm no expert, but he seems to be a classic example of a swinger.

Now, Rocco Mediate to me looks like a hitter.

Well the votes are heading toward swinging. I guess I was just watching the right arm like crazy and picked up something else.

Mediate for sure seemed to have a much more deliberate of a right arm push.

Any chance FC is a 4 barrel?

No way Couples is Hitting.
Just a massive rotor propelling those spaghetti arms.

Nearly everyone on Tour is a Swinger.

Freddie has the natural ability to rotate at the top more than the norm, it is a gift. What I like about Freddie's swing is his tempo. but why does he have back problems...

Looks like a right forearm pickup with roll. Freddie initiates the right right wrist bend slightly into the takeaway. Clubhead appears toe up at parallel, and certainly slightly above parallel. He appears to drive the right hand thru the ball. Freeze it at follow thru and see the left hand bend. No left forearm roll? The left responds to and folds as a result of his right side. I think Davis Love does the same, I've seen Tiger do this at times as well. Maybe helps take the left side out of play?

right arm controlled swinger?

Close to Tomasello?...except that you will see lateral motion with Freddie at the transition into the downswing, and not sure how Tom feels about the bent left wrist at follow thru...

Mediate has been working with Ballard of late, which is why his swing looks more hitterish than it used to.

That might explain Rocco's bad back. One of Jimmy's fav drills is to whack the back of a golf cart with the heel of the right hand, moving it about 6". [xx(]
